3 miles, 27:37
And so it begins. I tried getting out there this morning. Spent an hour getting everyone fed and dressed, brought the double jogger in to warm up the seats, and the moment, quite literally, that we were ready to go, I look outside and it starts to pour. Ladies and gentleman, welcome to my life.
Eight hours later, I'm out the door. It was a hard day, and I ran that way... hurried and tight, thinking about all the things I needed to get back to or hadn't done yet. About a mile in I tried readjusting... Here's my inner monologue. "This is your time to unwind, just relax and enjoy it. Take in your surroundings - brEAThe. Ok. Six fifteen, foggy, 45 degrees. Not dark yet, but close.
Breathe in breathe out. Left foot right foot left foot right foot. What's up with all these Christmas lights? It's January fifth people, let's put up the next set of gaudy holiday decorations. down with Donner, up with Cupid... Your yards look sloppy and ridiculous. It reminds me of the subway in Boston... nine o'clock on a Saturday morning and you catch a chick on the green line wearing stilettos and a cocktail dress. Cute in and of itself, but in that context, out of place, making a perfectly legitimate ensemble seem both overly ornate and sloppy at the same time.
Bottom line, I'm over Christmas."
But I digress...
Three miles isn't very far to go, and "relaxing" wasn't working so I just decided to bang it out as fast as I could reasonably manage so I could throw the towel in on Tuesday. I think I need to come up with new routes so I'm more engaged with my surroundings and less engrossed with the voices in my head.
Anyway, I ran the whole thing in under 30 minutes, 9:12 miles. Not bad for day one.
More next run... Over and out.
