After my debaucle at Gym of America, I decided to take a different approach. Instead of my usual "running mix", I chose to listen to some mellower music. Think of music that you'd sing to instead of music that you'd dance to. Going with the whole, "you're not going to wIn, so you might as well enjoy it" theme, I just ran. No looking at my watch, no worrying about pace or gait or posture, I just listened to the music and let the road take me. I think it might have been life changing.
No really.
Ok, maybe I'm being a little dramatic, but it was SO much better than trying to force it. Maybe that's what those annoyingly zen people do. Just let the road take them. Or maybe they're just high. It is Oregon after all. Pot smoking is about as common here as reusable grocery bags or lesbians driving Subarus... Not that there's anything wrong with that. Anyway, my point is that slowing down my brain and my music didn't slow down my body in the least. 9:12 miles, and I ended with a smile on my face.
Here's my playlist for today
Patience - Tyrone Wells
Somewhere in Between - Lifehouse
Almost Lover - A Fine Frenzy
Never Saw Blue Like That - Shawn Colvin
Only You Can Love Me This Way - Keith Urban
Feel to Believe - Beth Orton
Already Gone - Kelly Clarkson
I feel no shame for these... bad pop songs are the seams in the fabric of America!
OK, that made me feel better about listening to Kelly Clarkson.
Goodnight.
